Central Embassy turned 10 with an immersive avant garde art presentation titled "Bangkok 3024" by American artist Daniel Arsham, who also marks his Thailand debut.
The New York-based artist is known for his mind-bending works that defy expectations, and is known for collabs with Dior, Pokemon, Adidas and Heinz. For Central Embassy, Arsham presents a bright blue pathway that visitors can walk through while appreciating his works.
The space gives off a zen garden vibe, complete with sand paintings. His Excavation Walls fits in with the existing design of Central Embassy's multi-storey atrium, providing a mesmerising backdrop for your IG shots. His signature theme of eroding is evident in sculptures such as Blue Calcite Crystallized Jumping Pikachu, Bronze Eroded Delorean and Stormtrooper Amethyst Crystallized Figure.
There are five sculptures on display, each is marked by the ravages of time and adorned with crystals, quartz, amethyst and polished steel. They invite audiences to consider the impermanence of life and the lessons we leave behind for future generations.
A pop-up store is also set up to offer an array of exclusive merchandise and collectibles from various editions created by Arsham, including exclusive items designed specifically for this event. That's not all, if you access the Central Embassy through BTS Phloen Chit, the skywalk has been wrapped and transformed into The Passage. It's a tunnel with Arsham’s signature aesthetics of erosion and decay and is created especially for Central Embassy.
"Working with Central Embassy has been a pleasure. The building's wide interior and outside spaces have made this the ideal location for me to freely create 'Bangkok 3024', my first project in Thailand. Above all, the innovative concept of Central Embassy, which dares to cross conventional limits, continues to create fresh experiences that align extremely well with my concepts and my artwork,” said Arsham.
Central Embassy has always been big on festive decors and art presentations through collabs with Thai and international artists. "In 2017, for 'The Beach’ by Snarkitecture, the mall’s Level G was turned into a transparent plastic spherical sea filled with over 1 million balls. At the same time, the world-class street art exhibition 'Madsaki: Combination Platter' showcased the unique works of the renowned Japanese artist. And, in 2020 we hosted the global debut of the 'Sorayama Space Park', a collaborative art installation created by Japanese-born artists: Hajime Sorayama and Azuma Makoto from AMKK. The highlight of the installation included a 12-foot-tall aluminium Tyrannosaurus setting its feet on the surface of a spectacular moon landscape,” said Barom Bhicharnchitr, managing director.
"Bangkok 3024" marks the beginning of Central Embassy's 10th anniversary celebrations. Throughout the rest of the year, exhibitions by world-renowned artists will be on display, along with promotions and events. "Bangkok 3024" is on Level G and Level 1 of Central Embassy until July 14.
