Prada showed up (and showed out) in Bangkok with a bang, bringing its “Prada Extends” music event alongside Bangkok’s fiercest (fashion-wise) under one roof at the Warehouse Stadium.
Prada and the British-Canadian musician Richie Hawtin, sometimes known as Plastikman, returned for an episode for their globetrotting music event, transporting attendees to the realm where fashion and music collide. Bangkok marked the fourth edition the fashion label tapped Hawtin for such an event, the first being held in London in 2021, and they dropped the beat twice last year in Tokyo and Miami.
The event kicked off at noon on June 29 with a meeting at Prada Iconsiam, where Hawtin and Arun Ramanathan, director of the international media platform Mixmag Asia, remarked on the unifying power of music that can connect people of all walks.
"Prada Extends Bangkok continued our journey uniting artists around the world in an evening of expression and expansion. The Bangkok edition celebrated the diversity and intensity of this vast metropolis, connecting the local creative community through an experience in sight and sound," said Hawtin. "Bangkok resonates with a unique frequency attracting a distinctive collection of like-minded people from across Asia. The dancefloor brought together a true melting pot of ideas and inspiration."
The evening part of the event took place at Khlong Toey's Warehouse Stadium. Led by Hawtin, the headliners included Vietnamese DJ BongBongQuayQuay, alongside DJs Elaheh and Sarayu, members of Bangkok’s eclectic UNST artist collective, set the dance floor on fire with their evocative thumpings. With the help of leading Thai visual wizards Chaiyapat Plubsiri, or Yellowtrash, and Supitchkran Sriprasert aka Footprints on Mars, the music showcase was never short of immersive visual arts to syncing guests with non-stop beats and sounds.
Among the attendees of the star-studded night were global brand ambassador and K-pop sensation Jeon Somi, who flew in from South Korea as a special surprise, and recently crowned Thai ambassador Metawin "Win" Opas-iamkajorn.
