Buri Ram to host Phanom Rung Light Phenomenon

TRAVEL

From Sunday until Sept 10, travellers and local residents in the northeastern town of Buri Ram can experience the Phanom Rung Light Phenomenon when sunlight is reflected through 15 doorways of a historical Khmer-style stone castle.

Erected between the 10th and 13th centuries, this compound was designed to resemble the god Shiva’s throne hall on Mount Kailash, the centre of the Hindu universe. It was reconstructed by the Fine Arts Department in 1971 and officially listed as the national historic monument in 1976.

There are four occurrences of the event. The two sunrise events can be viewed on April 3-5, and Sept 8-10, while the two sunset events take place between March 5-6 and Oct 5-7.

Call 044-666-251 or visit the Phanom Rung Historical Park page on Facebook.
