According to booking data from June 15 to July 7, Hat Yai surpassed Udon Thani, which topped the list of most affordable places released in April, with an average hotel fee of 1,250 baht.

Whether it’s for a quick getaway or an extended vacation, these affordable destinations offer a variety of unique experiences that cater to all types of travellers,” said Pierre Honne, Agoda’s director of partner development, Thailand.

In addition to low average room rates, visitors can enjoy various holiday experiences in the lively cities of Busan and Taichung or relax on the beach on Siargao Island.

Here are some of the highlights of the nine cheapest destinations.

Hat Yai, Thailand

(Average room rate: US$36, 1,230 baht)

In the southern town of Hat Yai, visitors can enjoy stunning panoramic city views and serene walking trails at Hat Yai Municipal Park. With a well-connected airport, the city also allows visitors to experience cross-border excursions to Malaysia.

Yogyakarta, Indonesia

(Average room rate: US$38, 1,300 baht)

Indonesia’s cultural centre Yogyakarta is a complex amalgam of modernism and tradition. During a visit to this energetic city and its Javanese cultural treasures, visitors can immerse themselves in local street food and crafts.

Kuching, Malaysia

(Average room rate: US$54, 1,850 baht)

The state capital of Sarawak, Kuching, is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. Here, visitors can explore historic Fort Margherita to learn more about the region’s colonial past. Dedicated to all things feline, the Cat Museum serves as an appropriate illustration of Kuching, which means “cat” in Malay. Perfect for outdoor and cultural activities, adventurers can also visit nearby Semenggoh Wildlife Center to observe orangutans in their natural habitat.
