Who's in charge?
Re: "Central bank legacy", (PostBag, Sept 19) & "BoT urged to reduce interest rates", (Business, Sept 17).
Khun Songdej Praditsmanont, who has some expertise in the financial domain, gave a useful brief history of the Bank of Thailand (BoT).
The BoT is a juristic person which is a state agency, but is neither a government agency nor state enterprise under the law on budgetary procedure and other laws. The BoT, as a juristic person, also functions as an institutional investor. Clearly the juristic person which is at the root of the BoT serves as a state agency enjoying the legal protections offered in that capacity.
However, I found it impossible to discover what or who constitutes that juristic person. Is it a corporation, a group of corporate entities, individuals, trusts or other parties? The 1942 Bank of Thailand Act reveals nothing, nor does the BoT's website or its balance sheet disclosures. Perhaps Khun Songdej could shed some light on this matter?
Re: "Toxic comments", (PostBag, Sept 22) & "The perils of censorship", (Editorial, Sept 19).
Since Sept 19, the Bangkok Post has been experiencing issues with its comments section.
Initially, users were unable to log in, and after this problem was resolved, comments on articles were no longer displayed. Many users suspect the Post has fallen victim to a cyberattack.
Unfortunately, there has been no information from the Post regarding this issue, even though no comments have been published for two days, despite the Post still accepting user comments.
As a user, one might expect the Post to provide a statement about the problems in the comment section and take measures to solve the technical difficulties. It would also be helpful if they kept users updated on the progress of the solution.
Re: "Smears and threats", (PostBag, Sept 20) & Re: "No quacks, please", (PostBag, Dec 2).
In December 2022, I dared to suggest in a letter titled "No quacks, please", that I thought medical advice or opinions should only be accepted from qualified medical practitioners.
Can I remind Eric Bahrt, who recently laments that he was bullied in PostBag's online comment platform, that he has called me a phony, punk, coward and a puppet?
This was for not standing up to the medical professionals, whom he said were responsible for the "Covid hoax".
Re: "Value for money?" (PostBag, Sept 20).
TRUE TV has decided to discontinue two English channels, BBC Earth and Love Nature, without compensating their subscribers.
And in their usual style they only show the announcement intermittently on the channel in question so no one will notice until its all gone -- pathetic!
