Security fears

Re: "Handout not definite vote-winner: survey", (BP, Oct 6).

My wife recently went with her elderly sister to the GSB in Phimai district to collect the latter's 10K baht. No problem. But a few days later my wife received a phone call for the infirm sister, who has no phone. My wife had put her own phone number as her sister's contact; nowhere else has there been any connection between my wife's phone number and the name of the infirm sister.

If this small example is symptomatic of GSB's and the handout's security I dread to think how many millions of baht will be scooped up by unscrupulous call centres.

Re: "'Amazing Thailand' just won't go away", (PostScript, Oct 13).

Thailand certainly lives up to that name when reading the now-legalised hours in which gambling is allowed. Most are from 6pm until 6am.

Buffalo racing, card games, mahjong, ring tossing? Boxing, and wrestling are among the events. So gambling is allowed when it suits the powers that be? And don't forget to buy your alcohol after 5pm. Amazing Thailand, indeed. There is never a dull moment. I love it.

Re: "Thai killed in rocket attack", (BP, Oct 12).

As the war in the Middle East escalates, the West is redefining the meaning of Good and Evil.

Netanyahu, the Israeli PM, in his fierce and angry speech at the United Nations, called Israel a peace maker and all those who fight against the Jewish state as antisemitic and evil. He has gone as far as banning the UN chief from entering Israel, declaring him persona non grata.

The main purpose of Netanyahu's UN speech is to tell the world that Israel has the right to strike Iran as the latter is close to possessing a nuclear bomb.

Fortunately for the Arabs or unfortunately for the Jews, the Middle East can only have peace when Iran announces that it has joined the world's privileged nuclear club. The guess is that day will not be long to come.

When nuclear weapons have become a means of strategic deterrence for both sides, Netanyahu has to carefully assess his strategy. For a small country with barely 22,000 square km, it is obvious that Israel is in no position to win any nuclear war.

The world no longer believes who is good or evil, if that matters. There are enough random bombings and wishful assassinations. We have also seen that millions of Palestinians have already lived in an open air prison in Gaza for decades.

Is it time that Moses should whisper to Netanyahu and say, my beloved son, enough is enough.

Re: "Not terrorists", (PostBag, Oct 12) & Re: "Thai killed in rocket attack", (BP, Oct 12).

Colin Roth claims that Hamas are not terrorists. I challenge him to say that in front of the families of the 41 Thai workers who were brutally murdered in Israel on Oct 7, 2023, by Hamas.
