Thailand coach Masatada Ishii said young players will be given an opportunity to gain confidence and experience at the LP Bank Cup in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The War Elephants will face Russia in their opening match today before facing regional arch-rivals Vietnam next Tuesday.

Thailand called up several young players for the invitational tournament after losing Supachai Chaided and Supachok Sarachat to injuries. The team are also without senior players such as Chanathip Songkrasin, Theerathon Bunmathan, Sarach Yooyen and Teerasil Dangda.

"The reason that we did not call up some of the senior players for this tournament is because I want to give youth an opportunity to gain experience and confidence so we can build a team for the 2030 World Cup qualification round," said Ishii during a pre-match press conference yesterday.

"As I said earlier, that we will use as many players as possible in this tournament and give everyone an opportunity to show what he can do in two games that we will play," added the Japanese tactician. "It will be a mixture of old and new players in the team."

Bangkok United midfielder Weera- thep Pomphan will captain the side in Hanoi, with Bali United defender Elias Dolah as his deputy.

Russia defeated hosts Vietnam 3-0 in their opening match on Thursday night.
