Superlek Kiatmookao is open to the idea of a ONE Championship rematch against Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the United States after putting on a show for American fans in the main event of ONE 168.
Thailand's "Kicking Machine" knocked out Britain's Jonathan Haggerty in just 49 seconds to become the new ONE bantamweight Muay Thai champion last Friday.
The 28-year-old, who also holds ONE's flyweight kickboxing title, received a rousing reception on his way to the Circle at Denver's Ball Arena in Colorado.
He thanked his supporters, many of whom were likely in attendance at last year's ONE on Prime Video 10 event in Colorado, where Rodtang was the recipient of raucous cheers himself.
"It is possible we could do Rodtang vs Superlek II in the US. It's very possible," ONE chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong said during the post-event press conference backstage at Ball Arena.
"I haven't thought about it. But is it a possibility? Definitely."
Superlek and Rodtang shared the ring at Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium nearly 12 months ago, putting on the fight of the year and leaving many calling for a rematch after a decision went Superlek's way.
The two Thais get on well outside the ring, and often play football together in Bangkok, with both admitting it was difficult to put their friendship aside and fight.
When asked by the Bangkok Post about Chatri's comments at the press conference, Superlek laughed and kept his cards close to his chest, saying the decision on a Rodtang rematch would rest with ONE Championship.
"Well, that's up to Chatri and up to the future," he said, smiling.
Chatri certainly seemed keen, however, which makes sense given the popularity of both men in the US, where their first fight caused a huge stir on social media with even UFC commentator and podcast extraordinaire Joe Rogan lauding the spectacle they put on.
"I mean Superlek got a bigger ovation than Haggerty," Chatri added. "You know, I was shocked. That fight is a huge global fight. It doesn't matter that it's two Thais.
"These are the two pound-for-pound best strikers on the planet. People want to watch that. It doesn't matter what country you're from.
"People want to see the beauty, the artistry, and the technique at the pinnacle of striking arts."
Also speaking at the press conference, Superlek said he was "extremely grateful for the chance" he had in Denver.
"I want everybody all over America and the world to see how incredible Muay Thai is – the danger, the excitement, everything about Muay Thai."
