Paradorn: Younger MPs more moderate

Paradorn Prissanananthakul, a Bhumjaithai Party MP for Ang Thong, in his capacity as the newly appointed Second Deputy House Speaker, has promised to remain politically neutral when performing his duty in the chamber.

Elected in the House as the Second Deputy House Speaker last Wednesday, Mr Paradorn's first task came the following day, with the two-day parliamentary meeting on the government's policy statement.

When it comes to performing the duties of a deputy house speaker, it is important to strictly follow meeting regulations and maintain political neutrality, he said.

He said compliance with meeting rules and neutrality are key to ensuring the meetings run smoothly and the fairness of his judgement.

Asked to compare the overall atmosphere in the chamber now to what he had observed in the past, Mr Paradorn said the average age of parliamentarians now is considerably lower and these younger politicians appeared to be more moderate than their predecessors.

The chamber debates during the time of prime ministers Chuan Leekpai and Thaksin Shinawatra, for instance, were far more heated, said Mr Paradorn.
